1.  Speech:  You will deliver a radio commercial that fits within the time limits. You can write your own commercial for an existing or fictional (school appropriate) product, or you can use an ad from a magazine, the radio, or a newspaper and deliver it as a radio commercial. 

2.  Delivery:  You will be out of sight while you deliver your speech; you may write your speech on paper, use note cards, or type it. If you hand write it, skip lines and make your writing neat.  If you type it, use a large font and skip lines.  If you use a printed ad, you need to transfer the commercial to your own scriptCdon=t simply read from the magazine/newspaper.<>

3.  Tone:  As you are preparing your commercial, you need to determine its tone.  What is the attitude or feel behind the message.  You will need to put that down in writing and then make sure that you are conveying that tone when you deliver your commercial. 

<>Ex.:  Are you going for an upbeat, happy tone?     Are you trying to sound serious, sarcastic, funny, scared, excited?       You need to know so that you practice and sound like you are sending that type of message.

4.  Purpose:  Obviously, the purpose of this assignment is to practice utilizing and varying your nonverbal communication skills.  You will need to focus on your volume to make sure you are heard from behind the curtain.  You will also want to make sure your rate is understandable.  Make sure that you clearly enunciate and articulate all your words.  Use an appropriate pitch and watch your vocal quality.  <>

5.  Practice:  You should go over this speech like you will when you deliver it;  practice out loud and with all your nonverbal cues.   Make sure that you can easily say all the words in the commercialCchange any that give you problems.  Listen to the radio and listen specifically for nonverbal cues during the commercials.  Try to emulate those qualities.
