Extra Credit Projects for British Romantic Poetry

Extra Credit Projects for British Romantic Poetry
As usual, point value depends on creativity and quality of work.

1.    Create an art project centered around a set of lines in one of the poems.  Include the title of the poem and the inspiring lines somewhere in the project.  You may use whatever artistic medium you choose.  (This is kind of like the English III assignment on the poem, “Snowbound.”)

2.    Write your own poem in the Romantic style.  Use appropriate elements of Romanticism for subject matter, style, diction, imagery, etc.

3.    Create a photo essay centered around the images in one (or more) of the poems.  Select a group of photos, either real photos or internet pictures, display them on a board of some sort, be creative with decorations, and include at least some of the poem’s lines, perhaps the whole poem.  (Like photography does for their photo essays on fall.)

4.    As William Blake did, “engrave”or illustrate one of the poems with images all around it.  Probably should use a poem by one of the other poets besides Blake.

5.    Create a collage of images that illustrate the five main tenets of Romanticism as discussed in class.

6.    Create and put up a bulletin board for one of the poets, like the Burns one in the hallway. Make it informational, colorful, classy, and eye-catching.

7.    There’s always the soundtrack idea.  Maybe have a key song for each poet based on his life and poetic subjects.  Perhaps a song or two for a poem or two.  Do a jacket with songs listed!!!

8.    Scrapbooking is also an option.  Perhaps a page per poet.  Pick out your favorite poems from each poet and do a page on each of them.

9.    Find another poem by any of the poets we are studying, make copies for all of us, then do a literary analysis (like you are doing for your Wordsworth poem).

10.    Create a brochure, perhaps on Print Artist, that tells all about one of the poets.  Make it something that classmates could use to help learn and remember facts about that poet and his poems.

11.    Find a DIFFERENT Romantic poet who lived and wrote during this time period.  Write up a short biography on him/her and find at least one poem by him/her.  Do a literary write up on the poem.

12.    Create some sort of puzzle to help study the poets and their lives, works, accomplishments.  Do something that could help your classmates study author information.

13.    Any other ideas?  Let me know. :)
